CORE VALUES
Gospel Centrality
We believe everything starts and ends with Jesus and His finished work, which we call the gospel, or good news.
Christianity isn't about becoming a better person, cleaning up your life, or simply trying harder. It's about knowing Jesus, trusting what He has accomplished for us, and becoming more like Him.
The gospel doesn't just affect what we believe on Sunday. It changes the way we live in our homes, families, workplaces, relationships, and every other area of life.
Community
We weren't made to do life alone. We need people who will encourage us, challenge us, help us grow, and walk with us through hard things.
We believe you need more than a workout partner or a hunting partner. You need people who know you, know what you're actually wrestling with, and are willing to walk through life with you.
Mission
We believe following Jesus changes the way we live wherever we are. You don't have to move overseas to live on mission. You can live on mission in your home, neighborhood, workplace, school, and community.
We want to love our city, serve our neighbors, care about the people around us, and help people discover who Jesus is.
Real
We don't have it all together, and we're not going to pretend that we do.
Life is hard. We sin. We struggle. We fail. We have questions and doubts. We want GCC to be a place where people can be honest about those things without having to put on a front.
Being real doesn't mean celebrating our brokenness. It means being honest about it and recognizing that we need Jesus just as much as anyone else.
DOCTRINE
The Bible
We believe the Bible is God's Word. It tells us who God is, who we are, what has gone wrong with the world, and how God has made a way to save us through Jesus.
Because the Bible comes from God, we believe it is true, trustworthy, and our final authority for what we believe and how we live.
God
We believe there is one God who created everything and is completely in control of all things. He is perfectly good, wise, powerful, and holy.
God is not like us or like anything else in creation. He is our Creator, and we were made to know Him, worship Him, and live under His authority.
We also believe God has a plan for everything that happens. Even though people are responsible for their choices and God is never the cause of sin, nothing happens outside of His control. In the end, everything will bring glory to God.
The Trinity
We believe there is one God who has always existed as three distinct persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
The Father is God. The Son, Jesus, is God. The Holy Spirit is God. Yet there is only one God.
The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit have always existed in perfect relationship with one another. God is holy, loving, and completely good, and He created us to know and reflect Him.
Our Problem: Sin
We believe every person was created by God and made to know Him. But humanity turned away from God.
That rebellion is what the Bible calls sin. Sin isn't just doing bad things. It is our desire to live life our own way instead of God's way.
At its core, sin is our rejection of God and our attempt to become our own savior. We try to save ourselves through our own morals, values, accomplishments, relationships, or success. Or we try to save ourselves through pleasure, which can lead to vices and addictions.
Every one of us has sinned, and none of us can fix that problem on our own. God's perfect justice means that sin must be dealt with, and the result of sin is death and separation from God.
Jesus and Salvation
This is where the good news begins.
God sent His Son, Jesus, into the world to save sinners.
Jesus lived the perfect life we could never live. He willingly died on the cross in our place, taking the punishment our sin deserved. Then He rose from the dead, defeating sin and death.
Jesus didn't come simply to make bad people better. He came to rescue people who could never rescue themselves.
His work is sufficient. Nothing needs to be added to what Jesus accomplished through His life, death, and resurrection.
The Church
We believe the Church is made up of everyone who belongs to Jesus.
When someone trusts in Christ, they become part of His family. We believe that means we aren't meant to follow Jesus alone.
The local church is a place where Christians worship God, learn from the Bible, care for one another, serve others, grow in faith, and invite more people to know Jesus.
The Return of Christ
We believe Jesus will return and rule and reign over the earth.
When He returns, He will make all things right. There will be no more sin, brokenness, suffering, or death.
Until then, we want to live faithfully, help people know Jesus, and point others to the hope we have in Him.
RICK REEVES
Pastor
My name is Rick Reeves, and I grew up in Roseburg after our family moved there from Texas when I was 13. I’m married to Ali, and we have three children and, at times, a foster child in our home.
I am passionate about people understanding the gospel and how it speaks to all of life. I want people to experience the gospel of grace because it is only the grace of God that saves and transforms our lives, families, and the communities we live in.
My hobbies and interests are: spending time with my family, studying theology, hunting, working out, and helping men grow into godly husbands and fathers.
Favorite Movies: The Last Samurai, The Patriot, The Edge, Good Will Hunting, Troy, Gladiator, Point Break (the original because the new one sucks), Dumb and Dumber, Tommy Boy, Black Sheep, and The Other Guys, to name a few.
Favorite Books: Gentle and Lowly, The Prodigal God, Lectures To My Students, Strange New World, Always Ready, Counterfeit Gods, Drinking With Calvin and Luther, and Imperfect Pastor.
A short summary of myself is that I’ve been told that I take the gospel seriously but not myself.
